This week I was reminded that anyone can sell a machine, but not everyone can be a partner.
A $250 Marketplace Find
I found a heck of a deal on Facebook Marketplace: a Curtis machine that sells for over $3,000, listed for $250. I needed one for my emergency loaner fleet, so I arranged to pick it up.
When I got there, I asked the seller why they decided to replace it.
He told me the church members had been complaining about the taste of the coffee.
I asked a simple question: Was the staff performing the daily cleaning?
The answer was no.
No one had ever taught them how to properly clean the machine. They were basically on their own when it came to equipment advice and support.
What We Found Inside
I removed the urn covers and immediately saw old coffee buildup inside the drums.
I told him, “This isn’t supposed to look like this. There are products and simple processes that can prevent it.”
That machine may not have been the problem. The lack of training and support was.
